"The Crossing has many mission opportunities. We partner with other churches in our service to Mexico, Uganda, Kokrine Hills Bible Camp (AK) and other locations. See the video below for the highlights."
The Nome/Iditarod mission event has us working/serving at several places. For example, the Crossing had people staged at the Iditarod Headquarters answering phones, working in the dog lots, and working in sale of the merchandise.
We also had the opportunity to work at the Native Basketball tournament. There we set up and served the concessions stand and were able to give away gospel tracts and Bibles.
Nome provided us other opportunities to reach out. The Nome Senior Center, for example, is a place we continue to visit and minister by singing hymns and spending time with the residents.
We also went to the small village called the Brevig Mission. Randy Shephard from Crossfire ministries went to the school and spoke about abstinence and avoiding alcohol and drugs. This was followed by our inviting the villagers for a showing of the movie Fireproof.
The Crossing further ministered to the prisoners at the local prison. We set up a Vacation Bible School for the village children. We also helped with setting and cleaning up at the Mushers Banquet.
There were 3 people (Ray Johnson, Ray Torgersen, and Scott Woodring) from The Crossing @ Birchwood who went to Kokrine Hills Bible Camp from June 13-20. Again, we operated in cooperation with Christ Community Church from Huntersville, NC.
Our primary responsibility was to replace an existing basketball court surface. There were many other jobs performed as well. They included logging and sawmill operation, using old flooring from basketball court to install a floor in work shop, and cleaning and organizing odds and ends to prepare for the coming of the youth.
The days were long but productive. Each included a devotion led by a team member and Roger Huntington organized morning devotions. We were able to use the new mess hall during the latter half of the work week. It seems the camp is becoming a top notch place for youth to learn about Christ.
I'm sure our involvement with CCC and KHBC is going to have a lasting impact for Christ in the neighboring villages of Tanana, Ruby, and Galena.
